2021 Year in Review

Because of generous supporters like YOU, more kids in Tahoe fell in love with reading in 2021!

You donated. You signed up for the reading challenge. You shared and liked our social media posts. You donated used books. You offered your support and encouragement and it made a BIG difference in the lives of kids!

Little did we know, but in 2021 kids in Tahoe would not only face the challenges of distance learning, but they would also face a major fire, complete evacuation of our town, repopulation, power outages, and record breaking snow storms all in a single year.

You partnered with us to support kids through this year. While there is still so much more work to be done, we hope that you will join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our inaugural year.

  • We launched Lift in February 2021

  • Donated over $2,500 worth of books to South Tahoe Middle School

  • Two “Teacher Talks” podcasts on literacy in Tahoe. You can find them here.

  • Partnered with tons of local businesses for 5 weeks of Teacher Appreciation gifts and gratitude South Tahoe Now, Alpen Sierra Coffee, and Bliss Skincare Studio (and more!)

  • Lovin’ Lake Tahoe generously helped raise funds through a Tote Bag partnership

  • Over 400 kids joined the Summer Reading Challenge and logged over 100,000 hours of reading this summer!!

  • Tons of kids got FREE ice cream at Aloha Ice Cream and Dessert Spa for completing the Summer Reading Challenge

  • Partnered with the Little Free Library and Jennifer Wattanachinda at Meyers Mountain Market to give out hundreds of FREE books and “reading buddies” to kids.

  • Four amazing readers won tix to see a Sfgiants game for logging the most minutes in the Challenge!

  • Couldn’t have done all of this without our amazing board: Melissa Benavidez, Robyn Rasmussen, Julie Molesworth, Paula Peterson, and Melissa Uppendahl

  • HUGE THANK you to everyone who donated money, time, and ideas!
